Overview

Management consulting interviews are often called a "Case Interview" since they have a heavy emphasis on case studies and analytical thinking. While each company will have slightly different procedures, it is necessary to be able to answer behavioral questions (questions about your life and experiences) and case study questions.

What Is A Case Study Question?

A case study involves the interviewer posing a business-related question to the candidate, and working through different ways of approaching and solving the problem together (with the candidate leading the discussion).

Throughout this discussion, the candidate's analytical ability and communication skills will be closely evaluated. The most important part of the candidate's answer(s) is not the final result, but rather, the process they take to solve the problem.

Case Study Prep Resources

Case studies can be difficult, but it is very helpful to practice them and get comfortable with a structured approach before your interview. There are slightly different approaches that can be helpful to keep in mind for different types of case studies. Below are some good resources to help you get started and be prepared for the case interview.

How similar are the case/consulting interviews across the industry? For example, is McKinsey's interview process similar to BCG's?

MCK has a different interview process from the rest. Other firms are roughly the same. Behavioral + Case
