Does an engineering degree mean I can only enter the engineering industry? Likewise, do I need an engineering degree to enter this industry?

I had similar concerns! I was studying compsci and originally wanted to get into software development. But after a REALLY bad internship and consulting my department advisor, I’m thinking of either pivoting into finance or continuing towards a graduate degree.

My brother has been looking at some engineering roles, I really don't think it pigeon-holes you per se. Like, yes you likely will be in an engineering-based role, but once you rise the ranks and become a manager level, you no longer are stuck doing the same thing every day.

Additionally, there are many types of different engineers within the same discipline. You can run a team at any related engineering firm.

If you enjoy the subject matter and the work you're doing (in the specific engineering discipline) it's really rewarding to work on creating those actual products!
