I have a friend who is interested in finance, but doesn't want to work the long investment banking hours. She is considering a career in wealth management, is that a good route to take?

Wealth management can be a really rewarding career, definitely a solid option. Early on it is more about learning, and helping support the more senior wealth managers with whatever they ask you to do. Sometimes those tasks are interesting like, finding potential future clients, researching a potential investment for the client, finding the appropriate expert to help your client with their investment goals, etc. But sometimes the work is a bit more dry and includes binding books and more administrative paperwork.

If you survive through all of that though, after a few years and a few promotions later, being a wealth manager can be a lot of fun, and pays pretty well not to mention. Since a lot of the job is keeping clients happy, socializing with them/prospective clients, and getting paid well to do it (if you are good at your job).

Overall it's a good balance between socializing, communication skills and still being exposed to finance.
